i find myself in a fix as today i was given a set of keys to the church. i went rampant opening doors that i previously couldn't get into. what i found was two more excellent rooms that are in need of cleaning house.
the youth rooms that i have inherited are in desperate need of updating. i want to help the kids set up the spaces to be more than just cool spaces, i want them to feel like they are sacred spaces. i already have ideas for the youth office being a place of prayer & discernment for the ministry. i even toy with the idea of calling it 'the daily office.' after that i'm at a loss, sorta. i have a huge main room which has a stage set up, plastic chairs, a few old couches (some on risers). there is a nice sized room at the top of the stairs before you walk into the large room. this room currently has a large window with natural light and a glass piece of art. i've got some generic sunday school rooms, one i am thinking of moving all the game stuff (ping-pong table, etc.) into to separate the crazy stuff from the sacred space. what i found today is a great storage room (it's a bit messy right now, but i can get that set up to where it can function) & a new finished room which had a bunch of books and some random tables and misc stuff. soooo
i want to come up with some ideas for transforming this entire space into something that is both an extension of and foundation for the churches youth ministry. problem is most folks talk 'coffee house' which is cool enough, but isn't there something else out there other than a cultural norm? plus, i'm kinda concerned about openly promoting/pushing coffee to kids. are there some cool ideas out there? i'm not sure what money i have to work with, but i'd like to not be limited by that detail. let's dream big and then go from there. got any big ideas?
