for thine enemy
as i have been watching the news tonight this moment in scripture comes to mind where king david gets word of his enemy saul's death. he asks for confirmation and how the messenger knows. the story is rather compelling, but what happens afterwards is what i would only hope & pray is how people would encounter this most recent death.
David and all the men with him took hold of their clothes and tore them. They mourned and wept and fasted till evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the army of the LORD and the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.
2 Samuel 1: 11-12
i don't have to like saddam, but i am compelled to say that i love my enemy as myself and i find it hard to jump for joy, or celebrate a political or military win.. i am speechless and pushed to a solemness & time of prayer

at one time I would have partied over this event, but over the past year my interpretation of current events has changed drastically. I am somewhat grieved by the celebratory attitudes of fellow Christians, who are commanded like I am to love our enemies. I believe justice should be served, but I don't believe we should execute people. I believe Saddam should have been kept in prison for his crimes and kept away from more opportunities to kill, but I don't think he should have been executed.
