am i the only person not reading harry potter?
today i sent sail with the youth for saint simon's island for our "mystery trip." the idea is that the youth don't know what they are signing up for and it generally requires them to do something they wouldn't otherwise do and something they might. this year we are doing some methodist history stuff and kayaking, the stuff they would like to do.. hang out on the beach. i'm looking forward to going back.
it is a long drive to and from and i am packing a number of books, but i noticed. i am not packing a harry potter book and haven't even crossed my mind to pack one (purchasing one would be the first step in being able to pack one). am i the only odd ball that isn't reading harry potter this past weekend and forthcoming week?
what might actually make me weird is the books i actually hope to tap into.

Never read 'em. I'm waiting for the Christian version. :)

Yes, Gavin. Yes you are.

I have never read a Harry Potter book or seen a Harry Potter movie. Which is weird, because I think I'm just the kind of Tolkien geek who would buy into this sort of thing. I can't understand myself at all.

Gavin & Thomas:
I implore you. They are wonderful books with a wonderful thought process and imagination and lesson.
Of course, I'm far on the other side of nuttiness with all this, so take me with a grain of salt.
But I promise you...anyone who uses Julian of Norwich as a mentor can't be all bad.

Hi
You're not alone. I'm an avid reader but have to say I'll watch the HP movies, but have never got around to reading the books, and don't have the heart to 'go back' and read them now.
I do like the movie storylines and think JK is a good writer...a good and gorgeous writer...a good, gorgeous and rich writer....but, nah, I haven't read the book(s).
For 'fantasy' type books (ok, theyr'e somewhat old) I'd recommend any books by the UK author, John Wyndham.
Ciao

No, Gavin...you're definitely not alone. Neither hubby nor I have ever read one of the HP books. Just not interested.

This means you lose 100 points from the House of Gavin...

I was required to read one in library school. Wasn't impressed. You're not normal (for a variety of reasons, including this one), but that's okay.
