I think much of the blame for 'fun-and-games' youth ministry belongs with parents, rather than youth pastors. Youth pastors are almost never in position to resist the pressure and complaints of parents who 'just want their kids in church' regardless of what that means.
I'm not against fun-and-games, mind. Just fun-and-games as the entire ministry program.

What Ms. Coble is forgetting is that back in her youth days, it was still common for parents to force their teenagers to go to church. That is gone now. Sometimes the fun and games is all that keeps them inside the building, and youth ministers are under great pressure to keep the numbers up.
